TooWrite / Springer Nature

UX/UIWebLow-Code

TooWrite is a structured scientific writing platform that replaces the blank-page dread of academic publishing with a guided, questionnaire-style workflow — helping researchers write abstracts and papers in minutes rather than months.

Born from a PhD student's writing crisis during COVID lockdowns, TooWrite was tested at four UK universities before being acquired by Springer Nature — one of the world's largest academic publishers — in February 2023, just three years after founding.

The Brief

We were approached by The Science Writing Revolution, a Bethnal Green Ventures-backed startup founded by two researchers, to design and build the TooWrite platform — a web application that would translate their novel, linguistically-researched writing methodology into an intuitive digital product. The tool needed to guide scientists through planning, writing and editing their research in short, structured sprints, while embedding mental health support and removing accessibility barriers for non-native English speakers, neurodivergent researchers and working parents.

The Solution

We designed and built the digital writing aid web application, with a drag-and-drop block style editor that could be used to compose an entire abstract or paper. User-centred design put the needs of researchers front and centre to allow us to build a tool that can make it easier and quicker for researchers to get their work out where it can make a difference. TooWrite was later acquired by Springer Nature for their Research Solutions division, where our collaboration continues.
